KAKADU CROCODILE HOTEL — WITH JOURNEY BEYOND

One framework, many brands. The croc went live in three weeks.

KAKADU NATIONAL PARK, NT — WEBSITE & CONTENT PLATFORM
FIRST BRAND ON JOURNEY BEYOND'S UMBRACO FRAMEWORK

Journey Beyond needed a brand-new hotel online the day settlement closed. Extending the multi-brand Umbraco framework we'd spent the year on made three weeks a schedule, not a scramble.

SCOPE
WEBSITE & CONTENT PLATFORM — FIRST BRAND ON THE MULTI-BRAND FRAMEWORK

Journey Beyond signed to buy the Kakadu Crocodile Hotel with a deadline wired to the website: live the day settlement closed. Historically that's a slow job — most of their sites were one-off WordPress builds. This one had three weeks.

It was possible for one reason. We'd spent the year extending Journey Beyond's Umbraco framework — a React component library on the enterprise CMS they'd chosen — and Kakadu was the first brand to put it to the test.

THE BET

A new brand should drop into the framework — not trigger a rebuild.

Kakadu was the first brand to prove it.

HOW IT RAN

Three weeks. Three moves.

NO. 01

Whiteboard

Jason and Kristen Bawden mapped the site, marked what the framework already had, and listed what it didn't.
Out came a site map, page plans, and the components that didn't exist yet.

NO. 02

Build

Branded into the shared design system, then built the eight components the framework didn't have yet — including an accommodation stack and a restaurant menu-and-table section, each with its own Umbraco model types configured.
Kristen drafted the pages, FAQs and imagery in parallel — hers to fill, not ours to gatekeep.

NO. 03

Launch

A UAT environment and deployment pipeline stood up, then the first brand went live on the framework — the day settlement closed.
No rebuild. No one-off. The kind of call that still makes sense in five years.

You can only read the croc from the air — the legs are the stairs to level two. Which is why the aerial leads the page.

Got a place, product or story that doesn't fit a template? That's our favourite brief.

Thanks to the enterprise might of Umbraco, coupled with our developer extraordinaire, we were able to get the site ready for launch in approx 3 weeks.
